If you’re interested in Māori culture, Gisborne is an essential port of call on your itinerary. Old traditions are still evident in many parts of the city. Oral history records include Titirangi Hill as the point of arrival for the migratory waka and Horouta, which brought the first Māori to the area.

With a beach right in town, it's the perfect place to learn to surf. The Golden Coast is a must place to visit. The surf breaks are so good in this part of the world, they're officially protected. Travelling in a campervan made our trip a great experience for us. It was a budget friendly and hassle free trip. Would go again in a campervan for another trip.

The Rere Rockslide is Gisborne’s biggest thrill. This natural rock slide is a must-do when visiting the region. It's one of the largest in the world. This is probably the most fun you can have without paying a cent.

Gisborne is home to a stunning mix of boutique wineries. Milton vineyard is an organic pioneer, and offers a free wine tasting at its cellar door.

There are amazing restaurants in the city which offer great food like Marina restaurant, Flagship eatery and many more. Make sure to visit them for some great food.
